The Posts Query options allow you to use custom post types of your choice. You can also specify the taxonomies/categories or choose specific posts to display in the posts block.
You can also use Posts Block to display related posts or the current query itself.
The posts displayed can be sorted in varieties of ways – by title, date, post ID, custom menu order, comment count etc., in either ascending or descending order.
The posts block settings window lets you customize the posts block by allowing you to specify block style, heading style, column count for grid based layouts, taxonomy for filter and enable lightbox for images.
Do make sure you choose the right taxonomy to display for posts/portfolio and the taxonomy that is used to filter the portfolio/post.
